Raiders Qualify for State Golf Championship!

The Raiders qualified for the State Championship by virtue of their 2nd place finish in yesterday’s regional tournament at Cobblestone Country Club.  the AAAAA State Championship will be held Monday May 7th in Augusta at Champion’s Retreat.

The Raiders shot 310 and finished just one stroke behind Lassiter, and both schools will be playing at State.

The Raiders were led by Sophomore John Yi’s 74, Senior David Yowell’s 75 and Freshman Alex Battle’s 79 in the cold, windy conditions.  John tied for low medalist for the region but lost out in a playoff when his opponent birdied the first playoff hole.

Varsity and JV Regionals Today and Tomorrow, 23rd & 24th

the Walton B team is playing in the JV Regionals (make up date from last week’s rainout) today the 23rd at Alpharetta Athletic Club East.

The Walton A team has their regional event tomorrow, Tuesday April 24th at Cobblestone Country Club.

Raiders Place 1st and 3rd in the Falcon Invitational

The Raiders played both their A and B teams this weekend at the Falcon Invitational and almost took the top 2 spots out of 8 teams, finishing first and third.

The A team was led by Senior David Yowell’s even par 72, followed closely by Michael Sheahan’s 74 and John Yi’s 75.  They scored 300 as a team.  David tied for first place medalist honors.

The B team was led by Justin Kobkit’s 79 and the team finished at 326.

USGA Jr Qualifying Registration is Open

The Qualifying for the USGA JR (the Jr version of the US Open) is now open.  it will fill up very fast, so if your son is interested in playing, you need to sign up immediately.  There are local qualifying events at UGA, Birmingham AL and Greenville SC this year – they are all in June.

Requirements

- must have a verifiied USGA handicap of 6.4 or lower prior to signing up

- Cost: $25 (not a typo – this is the best value in jr golf:))

- be ready to play 36 holes in one day in June!

This event is EXTREMELY competitive – the boys will be playing against the best players from the Southeast and only 4-5 of 90 entries will qualify to go to the Championship.  It is great experience, so if it fits your schedule, sign your son up.  Matthew is playing at UGA on June 25.

Need Updates to Raider Player Roster Information

i have updated “best scores” for those players that i am aware of, but i know that many of our players have been shooting their career best scores over the past few months and i am not aware.  Please comment on this post with your son’s updated best single 18 hole score and “Favorite Player” information.

i also want to add another item – “Career Best 18 Hole Tournament Score”; it needs to be a tournament where they played 18 holes in one day, and please list the course also.  i will add this to their roster profile.

Raiders and Lassiter Play to a Tie

The Raiders played Lassiter – their top regional competitor - to a tie of 151 – 151 in windy conditions yesterday at Indian Hills CC.

The Raiders were led by 3 of their Sophomores with Michael Sheahan leading  the team shooting an even par 36, followed by Matthew Flynn’s 37 and John Yi’s 38.
